        Tracking Remote Docshare Forums

Remote docshare forums are those located on an installation of Forum other than the one you are currently using. Usually, these installations are located across the web on other computers.

To track a remote docshare forum, do the following:

  1. View the summit page.

  2. Log in, if you have not already.

  3. Click on the "Forum tracker" button, as follows:

    For illustration only:

  4. Click on the Tools Menu drop-down list.

  5. Click on the Select Remote Forums to be Tracked menu item.

  6. On the "Select Remote Forums to be Tracked" page, provide the URL of the summit that contains the forums you want to track.

Valid Forum URLs look like these examples:

    http://www.company.com/forums/aca-1/dispatch.cgi
    http://www.organization.org/Avf/marketing/dispatch.exe

If you are not sure of the URL, test the URL in your browser, ask another user of that Forum installation, or contact the summit administrator of that installation.

  7. Click on the OK button.

Forum then asks you to provide a username and password for that installation. Once you provide this information, Forum provides a list of available forums on that installation.

  8. Ctrl click on the names of the forums you want to track.

Ctrl clicking is the method supported by Windows for selecting multiple items in a list. If you are using another system, use the method supported by your system.

  9. Click on the Ok button.

Forum returns you to the tracker page.

In the bottom frame of the tracker window, Forum displays a bolded link to the summit page and the tracked forums underneath the summit link. In the tracker window, Forum does not make a distinction between a local and remote forum. They are all listed in the same place, and in the same format.
